La Bluefin is a new oceanfront vacation home located in Meteghan, in southwest Nova Scotia, that offers unobstructed 180 degree views of Saint Mary’s Bay and its spectacular sunsets! It is the perfect spot to unwind while listening to the waves crashing below on the rocky cliff and watching the fishing boats pass by, and to recharge after a day of exploring Nova Scotia’s beautiful Acadian Shores.

Meteghan is located in the municipality of Clare, locally known as “Baie Sainte-Marie”, in the Yarmouth and Acadian Shores region of southwest Nova Scotia. The coastal municipality of Clare stretches for more than 50 kilometers along St. Mary’s Bay, between the towns of Digby and Yarmouth in southwestern Nova Scotia. It was founded in 1768, after the British granted the Acadians the right to return to Nova Scotia after the Deportation on the condition that they relinquish their former lands in the Grand-Pré area. To this day, the majority of Clare’s inhabitants are Acadians and the names of the first families to settle in the area are very common: Dugas, Belliveau, Comeau, Doucet, Saulnier, Robichaud, Melanson… The region is also called the “French Shore” because it is home to the largest Acadian community in the province.

Hello and welcome! We are Sophie and JF, the owners of La Bluefin. Although our Comeau family name is typically Acadian and very common in the region, we are Quebecers. In fact, JF’s father was born and raised in Meteghan, and JF spent his childhood summers here. We continued the tradition with our own children and vacationed in the area for 10 years before getting our own place. This experience allows us to get to know the area as both locals and tourists, and to help our guests make the most of all that southwest Nova Scotia has to offer. St. Mary’s Bay is the best kept secret in the Maritimes, and we are thrilled to help you discover it!
The name of our house comes from the Bluefin Motel that was on our property for about 40 years (“la Bluefin motel” in local Acadian French). It was demolished in the mid 2010’s, but for the locals and even for us, our address remains “the old Bluefin”. We couldn’t imagine calling our property anything else!
